The Role:
We are currently looking to recruit a Relief Care Assistant (Relief Hours) to join our Southwest Children & Family team in Killorglin Community Care Centre - Co. Kerry. Killorglin Community Care Centre offers a wide range of services for adults and older persons in the Killorglin and greater mid Kerry area. This includes a laundry service, transport service and day care services that take place in the centre, in house meals and a meal on wheels service. These activities include social, physical and educational programmes aimed at addressing the needs of our clients. The centre is open Monday to Friday and can cater for up to 16 clients per day.
The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver a programme of activities for clients in the centre on a daily basis, providing for the personal, physical, emotional and social development of the individual. The post holder also delivers personal care to clients and works closely with management to ensure that the needs of our clients are being catered for on a daily basis. This role will be for a fixed funded period but is hoped to become permanent subject to future funding.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
Education
• Minimum FETAC Level 5 in Social Care/Social Science/Care Skills/Healthcare/Care of the Elderly or equivalent qualification is essential
Experience
• At least 1 years’ experience working as a carer or in a similar role is essential
• Experience of working with the elderly or this age group in general
• Experience of planning and/or delivering a programme of activities, providing for the personal, physical, emotional and social needs of the individual
• Experience caring for people with mobility needs.
• Experience of working in the community/ voluntary sector would be an advantage
Skills
• Excellent skills as a Carer
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Excellent interpersonal and listening skills
• Good organisational & administration skills
• Ability to work as part of a team, and on own initiative where required
• Empathy towards the welfare and wellbeing of the more isolated and older members of our community
• Ability to build a rapport with clients is essential
• Ability to foster a sense of independence for all clients.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality relating to the area of work
Knowledge
• A knowledge and appreciation of the Society, its ethos, mission and values.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements when working in this environment
